The German under-23 boat stormed out of the starting blocks, took the lead and stayed there throughout. The United States chased hard in second, but were unable to close the gap with Germany. The German lead increased until the line, and the Deutschlandachter took gold three seconds ahead of the United States.

Russia secured their bronze medal early on in the race, and followed the top two boats until the line.

Results: GER, USA, RUS, ROU, GBR, FRA

Michael Trebbow – GER – gold

“This year was really awesome, we are four guys that were in the eight last year. But this year, everything is just better. We prepared a lot more and it is really satisfying to achieve this goal.”

Max Meyer-Bosse – USA – silver

“It was a tough but good race. There are a lot of fast crews out there. It is a bit unfortunate not to be on top of the podium, but all the credit to the Germans for this race. We are proud of our work.”

Daniil Baranov – RUS – bronze

“It’s great because we have been working all year and in the end we have a medal. Germany were just the best.”

B-Final

The Italians took the lead in the five-boat B-Final of the men’s eight and increased it throughout ahead of Ukraine and Croatia. Clear water separated the Italians from the rest of the field when they crossed the line five seconds ahead of Croatia. The Croatians had moved up ahead of Ukraine in the final stretch. In this race Bulgaria featured the only boat racing today at the under-23 championships and took fifth.

Results: ITA, CRO, UKR, POL, BUL
